Why the 'e' on 'Rolande'?
There is also an English folk tale that tells of Childe Roland who fights the King of the Elves
to save his brothers and sister, Helen. Pat and John wrote a song in the form of a folk ballad to tell the
heroic story. The song was never performed very much as it was quite complex with the different
characters being sung by different people and the various sections of the story having their own tunes
and timings. Eventually the "folk opera" disappeared from the band's repertoire but we liked the name
so much that we changed the band's name (previously "Machine") to Childe Rolande, adding an "e" to
distinguish ourselves from all the other spellings we had come across.
