Having written it I researched the timing of the invention of corduroy and the various wars Britain had with Spain, and it would seem to place the action in the time of the War of Jenkins' Ear (1739–1748), when Britain was looking for any excuse to have a scrap with Spain to legitimise the plunder of the riches of the Spanish Main in the West Indies.   All text, images and music samples on this site are copyright © Childe Rolande.
