Work in progress
After writing a new song, or researching a traditional song that I think might work for the band, I record a rough demo on my laptop to present the songs to the band. With the traditional songs I could just send links to versions other singers/bands have done but it would explain how I thought we could perform it, especially if I’m suggesting we drastically change the rhythm or the speed, which is usually the case. Also it gives me a chance to work out the chords, likely key, harmonies and instrumentation before we get to rehearsal.
These are some of the recent songs we’ve been looking at. Some are still at rehearsal stage, others have already been added to the repertoire. Some click very quickly and others take much longer to be audience-ready. You never know.
The demos are rough. In each case I had only just learnt the song, worked out the chords and the words and come up with a possible structure. Looking back on them they are usually a bit too polite and a bit slow.
