Work in progress – Lowlands Away

A traditional sea shanty. Recently, I came across this shanty in Stan Hugill’s book Shanties from the Seven Seas and I realised I already knew this from the Shirley and Dolly Collins version ‘Lowlands’ on their 1969 album Anthems in Eden. Likely originated on shore from Scotland or the North Country. Uniquely, there are alternative versions and the ‘dead lover’ can either be male or female. Now a regular in our set list.
