Work in progress – Strange are the Ways

The most recent song I’ve written. As I’ve mentioned in the News/Diary section this song developed from my interest in English folklore and the various ancient ceremonies and festivals that have been passed down through the generations and are still celebrated around the country. Some of them are really strange and have the touch of Gormenghast about them. Nevertheless, they are ours, our heritage, and to my mind they shouldn’t be forgotten. The song picks out some of the rituals that occur at particular times of the year and starts and ends with a chant in the form of a list of some animals, objects, trees and plants that have folklore symbolism. The fill sounds easy but is a pig to play! This song is at the very early rehearsal stage.
