Pat's words capture well the feeling of a bleak and wild landscape, cold stone castle walls and ghosts lurking in the dark corners, just out of sight. The instrumental played by Frances on the whistle at the beginning and end of the song is a traditional Northumbrian pipe tune called 'The Lament of the Border Widow'. The drone behind the whistle is a hurdy-gurdy.
