Ravensdaughter - The Banks of the Nile
(traditional)

A traditional anti-war song from the time of the Napoleonic Wars and in particular his campaign in Egypt. British troops under the leadership of General Ralph Abercromby finally defeated the French at the second Battle of Aboukir (Abu Qir) in 1801. At the Battle of Aboukir, even though they were victorious, the British lost 1,100 men out of the 5,000 that went to the banks of the Nile. General Abercromby was among the dead.
